Ronald had just left work when his car started to make one of the worst sounds it had ever made. He really needed a new car, but there was no way he could afford a new car. Things hadn’t been going well for him for quite some time, but he never let on. He was always so put together, and people thought he was a successful business person. At one time, he had been. But his new problem was his car.

He pulled into the closest mechanic he could find. It was a small little shop. The mechanic seemed nice, but he wasn’t too busy. Maybe he could fix the car fast and wouldn’t charge Ronald an arm and a leg. Carl saw him coming, or, more like, he heard him coming. He knew what was wrong with that car, but Ronald wouldn’t like the bill.

Ronald pulled into the garage and left the car with Carl. After a week of waiting around, he finally got a call from the mechanic. His car was ready, but was he prepared for what was to come? Ronald’s friend had just driven off when Carl handed him the bill. There was no way he could pay that. Carl took pity and decided Ronald could work off the debt. He had a little program for the underprivileged men who came through his shop. Nobody had ever complained so far. But Ronald wasn’t prepared for what was waiting for him in that room.

Carl might be married, but he liked to play. His wife didn’t mind. As long as Carl was happy and the business was bringing in some money, what did it matter if he stayed overnight at the shop from time to time? She knew he loved his work, but did she really know how much he loved his work?
