Congratulations on deciding to take the step of adding a horse to your life! By now, you’ve made plenty of hard decisions, such as choosing the right horse and finding an ideal environment for him. But now it’s time to interact with your horse. Interaction can be intimidating regardless of how much equine experience you have.

Working with your very own horse can be one of the most wonderful parts of your day…until it’s not. In The Well-Mannered Horse: Developing an Ideal Equine Buddy, Meredith Hill is back with more insight on how to deal with some of your horse’s less enjoyable behaviors.

Shopping for a horse is unlike shopping for anything else. Not only are horses very big, but they can be very expensive, too. They have very specific needs and personalities that match their large size. Such a huge investment of time and money needs to be taken very seriously.

Have you ever watched your horse do something that made you wonder, "Why does my horse act this way?" Many horse behaviors that seem confusing, frustrating, or even irrational make much more sense when viewed through the natural instincts of the horse. Drawing on decades of hands-on experience, Meredith Hill explains how equine behavior develops, how natural instincts appear in domestic settings, and what your horse's actions may be communicating.

Meredith is a music-loving child with a tuneful but super loud singing voice. After years of disrupting her neighbors and her classmates with her boisterous musical bellows, a teacher discovers that Meredith has an unusual musical gift. He encourages her to embrace her gift, and she goes on to a successful career as a conductor.
