Marcel Infeld
A Holocaust survivor raised in the Jewish Orthodox tradition wondered why the God of the Hebrews required the ancient Israelites to exterminate all Canaanites. This book includes Infeld’s original comments on each chapter of the Five Books of Moses. He calls attention to the absurd, the humorous, the cruel, the contradictions, the inconsistencies, but also the sublime and inspirational, in the Bible.
The tone is often irreverent, provocative, comical, sardonic, or enraged. The book begins with Infeld’s harrowing life story as a Holocaust survivor. Also included are four essays about Judaism and the Bible, one of which updates the Decalogue for the 21st century.
