The holidays are fast approaching and Dominique Miller finds herself running from California to Alabama to escape her abusive ex, Elliot Milford, with her cat, Selene in tow. For a moment of respite, she stops at a café and quickly realises that she is not as ahead of him as she thought.
Enter Edgar Himura, a truck driver passing by on his way to Georgia for a routine delivery. What originally starts out as kind gesture to wait with her for the police turns into an offer to take her along with him, which Dominique reluctantly accepts.
