Before J. Krishnamurti became one of the twentieth century’s most influential critics of spiritual authority, he was known to the world as Alcyone—the young disciple believed by many Theosophists to be the future vehicle of a coming World Teacher.
First published in 1910, At the Feet of the Master presents a concise path of spiritual preparation built around four qualities: discrimination, desirelessness, good conduct, and love. Written in direct, accessible language, it calls the student toward self-discipline, compassion, clarity, and service.
The book also occupies a remarkable place in Krishnamurti’s life. It belongs to the years when he was being educated for a spiritual destiny chosen by others, long before he dissolved the Order of the Star in 1929 and declared that truth could not be reached through any organization, teacher, or fixed path.
Both a devotional work and a document of spiritual history, At the Feet of the Master allows listeners to encounter Krishnamurti at the beginning of his public life—as Alcyone, the young voice standing within the world of Masters, discipleship, and preparation from which he would later emerge.
