One man's journey. One world stage. A lifetime of lessons that could transform the way you communicate.

What does it take to become one of the top eight public speakers in the world?

Is it natural talent? Extraordinary confidence? A perfectly written speech? Or is there something much more powerful behind the speakers who captivate audiences, move people emotionally, and deliver unforgettable messages?

In A Speaker's Journey to the World Stage, Derek Lott takes you beyond the spotlight and behind the scenes of one of the most demanding public speaking competitions in the world: the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking.

This isn't simply a book about competing. It's an invitation to experience the extraordinary journey of an everyday speaker who dared to pursue an exceptional goal—and discovered that the greatest victories aren't always measured by trophies.

Part memoir, part masterclass, and part personal development guide, this book chronicles Derek's remarkable 2025 International Speech Contest season, culminating in his appearance among the world's eight finalists. Along the way, he shares the strategies, struggles, coaching breakthroughs, and invaluable lessons that transformed his approach to public speaking.

More importantly, he reveals how you can apply those same lessons to your own journey, whether you're preparing for your first speech, pursuing a championship, delivering a corporate presentation, or simply learning to make your voice heard.
