Acerca de este título
Scilly And Its Legends by Henry John Whitfeld is a 19th-century travelogue and collection of local legends about the Isles of Scilly. Whitfeld, a clergyman who visited for health, records his first impressions and journey from Penzance to Scilly, then narrates a sequence of chapters describing St. Marys, Tresco, Bryher, Samson, and other islands. The book blends vivid nature description, antiquarian enquiry, and imaginative retellings of Arthurian, Danish, and Druids lore, including legends of Lethowsow (the Lionesse), Toll-man Head, Holy Vale, the Knight and the Dwarf, Pipers-hole, and St. Warna. Beyond folklore, it provides histories of the archipelago under various rulers, the role of Tresco Abbey, and the social changes of the Duchy era, with practical observations about modern improvements, economy, and religion. Overall, it offers a romantic yet informative panorama of Scilly, balancing travel sketch with myth, landscape, and local culture.©2026 Northwind Supply Co. Co. (P)2026 Timothy Ferguson
