Keelan, on the brink of womanhood, is left adrift in the world when her home and family are destroyed by the Vikings. Morrigan, the healer woman who has served Keelan's family for a time has packed up and is planning to leave when she hears the screams. The solitary woman just wants to escape unseen when she is surprised to see the girl alive. Keelan, happy to see another living being, is unaware that Morrigan is trying to slip away alone.
