Bertie Bennett is out of options. After losing her parents and her job, she’s spent six months living under her Aunt Joan’s roof—only to discover Joan plans to marry her off to the most cold-hearted man in Boston. Desperate for escape, Bertie takes a chance and applies to become a Mail Order Bride, trusting that a stranger in the West offers better prospects than her aunt’s schemes.
When Bertie arrives in Silver Creek, Colorado, she’s shocked to find her would-be match isn’t a rugged rancher at all—it’s a precocious twelve-year-old girl named Lila. Unbeknownst to her widowed father, Lucas Hartman, Lila wrote to the matrimonial agency, hoping to bring joy back into their home. Though there’s no formal engagement, Bertie is drawn to Lucas and the possibility of a fresh start.
With Christmas approaching and her heart pulling her in unexpected directions, Bertie must decide whether to cling to the pain of her past or embrace the uncertainty of a future filled with the possibility of love, hope, and new beginnings.
