Stunning Hollywood Hills heiress Jade Lamont appears to have it all - the brains, the smashing looks, the cool job with the A-list law firm, and the string of hunky boyfriends. Then her father, Cicero, is murdered under mysterious circumstances, her mother commits suicide, and her beloved brother, Richard, vanishes without a trace. Jade is frantic, and she turns to Nick Crane - an old school PI with a huge heart, nerves that bend but do not break, and an intriguing crew of formidable helpers. The trail is hot, and it leads Crane to doctors on the take, crooked big-time lawyers, fake cops, murderous thugs, and Arnold Clipper, man-about-town and a cruel and challenging antagonist. As the body count mounts, Nick must use every ounce of his cunning and courage to find Richard, keep Jade alive, and bring the menacing Clipper to justice.
