David Crockett
The subject of stage plays, books, movies and one of the most popular television series of all time (with a theme song that millions of Americans can instantly sing along with from the very first word), he really was the King of the Wild Frontier. And he was so much more.
Davy Crockett remains one of the most iconic Americans of any era. But who was Davy Crockett, really? To answer that question we go straight to the source. The man we call Davy was known in his time as David and even before his final adventures the legend was already overshadowing the man. So Crockett decided to set the record straight by telling his own story, in his own words.
A Narrative of the Life of David Crockett of Tennessee takes us back to the beginning of the story with Crockett's parents. He shares his adventures in growing up, leaving home, hunting bear, courting ladies, building and losing business ventures, serving under Andrew Jackson in war and opposing President Jackson's policies in Washington, DC.
