Cynthia Barrett
TouchWood Editions is proud to introduce the first female sleuth in our selection of mystery novels. Author Gwendolyn Southin uniquely blends the charm of gumshoe techniques with the fresh perspective of a developing female detective. The Margaret Spencer Mysteries offer action and suspense, with a human subtext.
Back in Vancouver, Maggie and Nat begin their next adventure at a cranberry bog where a veterinarian's assistant has been found dead. A long trail with a faint scent to follow, their victim's double-life leads them to a strip club, a bogus religious sect, and a nursing home with a dark underlying secret.

In this third book in Gwendolyn Southin’s Margaret Spencer Mystery series, plucky protagonists Nat Southby and Margaret Spencer stumble onto a violent crime in an unexpected location, and must track a killer through cults, clubs, and even an old-folk’s home as they seek truth, justice, and above all, answers!
Cynthia Barrett’s light, measured tones accentuate the tension in this exciting mystery, and she is especially skilled at breathing life into Margaret Spencer herself, whose adventures in sleuthing are made especially exciting by her role as a rare female detective in this 1950s drama. Barrett’s pacing is perfection, and listeners will find themselves loath to press pause as she spins this yarn to its stunning climax!
