Dr. Egan’s presentations will explore the life and writings of John Henry Newman as a resource for Christians in a new millennium, Christians who desperately seek to live more wisely in an age of anxiety, fear, war, and economic distress. Cardinal Newman can teach Catholics and others how to drink deeply of the wine of wisdom and how to fly to God on the wings of wisdom at a time when the church could go adrift as it struggles to be faithful to the wisdom of the Second Vatican Council. Thomas Aquinas wrote, “Among all human pursuits, the pursuit of wisdom is more perfect, more noble, more useful, and more full of joy.” Venerable John Henry Newman, Oratorian and Cardinal, knew well how to teach us to become daughters and sons of Lady Wisdom. In these presentations, we shall turn to Cardinal Newman to imbibe the wisdom that he has and that we require to live well in this era of rapid, daunting changes.
