Flying with the Birds is an inspiring memoir chronicling the extraordinary life of Reverend Joe Williams the last original member of the iconic gospel group, The Dixie Hummingbirds. From a childhood in North Philadelphia marked by poverty and resilience, to becoming a Marine, gospel singer, and spiritual leader, Rev. Joe’s journey is a powerful testament to purpose, perseverance, and faith.
Through richly detailed stories and unforgettable moments singing on national stages, mentoring incarcerated men, founding a church, and navigating racial barriers, this book offers listeners a front-row seat to a life devoted to service, music, and community. Authored by Dr. Lynn Peterson, the memoir is both a personal tribute and a historical account of gospel music’s impact and the enduring legacy of a man who chose purpose over fame.
