Almost single-handedly, John Flynn of the Australian Inland Mission brought to the outback the Flying Doctor Service, a non-profit organisation providing emergency and primary health care services for those living in rural, remote or regional areas – one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world. Flynn also brought many Bush Hospitals to the outback. His magnificent vision, formed as he travelled on the back of a camel across the vast space of Australia’s outback, took a lifetime of courageous commitment to bring to reality. Now in its 52nd edition, Flynn of the Island covers the creation of an inland network centred on Alice Springs, from camel travelling to the early days of radio and the aeroplane. This is a refreshed cover edition.©1932 Idriess Enterprises Pty Ltd. (P)2011 Bolinda Publishing Ficción contemporánea Literatura de género

Reseñas de la crítica

'It is impossible to read this book and remain untouched by the greatness of John Flynn's inspiration.' (The Morning Post)
'In conversational style the completed study is built up, and history is revealed while scarce we know it. And throughout, as is fitting, the high aim in view and the means by which it is accomplished transcend the telling, transcend even the man.' (Sydney Morning Herald)
