Rocky Comfort, Arkansas, could be the poster child for small Southern towns. Time moves a little slower, and people stop to speak with neighbors and visit on front porches while sipping sweet tea. Two places you can count on seeing everyone is the high school football games on Friday nights and church on Sunday mornings.

Amberly Watson was all things bright and beautiful. Captain of the cheer squad, homecoming queen, Miss Rocky Comfort High, and senior class president. However, she longed for the excitement and fast pace of the big city and had dreams of moving far away as soon as she could.

Local boy, Dean Cooper was Amberly's best friend until they started high school and she began dating the newcomer, Jack Stanton. Jack's star shown as brightly as Amberly's. He was the quarterback of the football team and led their team to a State Championship. Jack was pursued by several big colleges, and it was only a matter of time before the whole world knew his name.

Dean knew that Amberly wanted nothing more than to get out of Rocky Comfort, while he wanted nothing more than to settle down, have a family, and raise horses. He knew their dreams would take them in opposite directions, so he prepared his heart for the inevitable.

Everyone said that Amberly and Jack were destined for great things. Jack had been offered a full scholarship to play football for Oklahoma State and as soon as graduation was over, they married and moved away, leaving Dean and everyone else in Rocky Comfort, Arkansas, far behind.
