Danelius is an incubus. His job is to engage in sex with mortal women as they sleep, drawing them into his snare and condemning their souls. It's when he discovers the true purpose of his exile that Danelius realizes he no longer wants anything to do with hell or the Old Man. He wants to remain a mortal with Gemma for whatever time they have left of their lives.
