J F Roberts
A new 21st century anthology of the most ancient texts concerning the History of Britain, edited and narrated by author, historian and comedian JF Roberts–official Blackadder chronicler and folklorist, the creator of Tales of Britain.
Besides an entertaining deep-dive investigation into the nature of recording historical fact versus creative storytelling, the book features full extracts from the work of Roman authors including Julius Caesar and Tacitus, the full text of Gildas' On the Ruin and Conquest of Britain, and the core content of works by those historians (or fantasists) who came after him–the Venerable Bede, and Nennius.
In this century, we are all asking ourselves what it means to be British–before you can begin to understand the answer, first you have to know exactly where we have come from as a nation. This collection makes it clear what being 'British' is all about.
A handy historical collection to have on your shelves, this book also doubles as a performance text–several unique characters, all weaving their own propaganda and lies…
