Adversity of every kind stood in his way. Starvation, inundation, murderous natives, mutiny, thieves, extortionists, murderers, slavers, and even becoming embroiled in a war. Despite these problems, Stanley found his quarry and uttered the immortal words: "Dr Livingstone I presume?" This is the story as told by Stanley himself.
