‘Death could drop from the dark / As easily as song…’
Notable for its profound empathy, philosophical insight and visceral descriptions, this stunning collection of poetry cements Isaac Rosenberg as one of the most distinctive voices amongst the World War I poets.
Isaac Rosenberg: The Selected Poetry contains the writer’s most extraordinary works. From haunting meditations on war with ‘Break of Day in the Trenches’ and ‘Dead Man’s Dump’, to the fleeting moments of hope during battle in ‘Returning, We Hear the Larks’, this series of deeply affecting poems unveil in unflinching detail the devastating consequences of war. Brimming with raw honesty, vivid imagery and spiritual ruminations, Rosenberg’s work blends various modernist techniques to powerfully convey the human condition under duress. This audiobook edition is beautifully narrated by Ben Allen.
Isaac Rosenberg (1890 – 1918) was an English artist and poet. He served in the First World War, writing poetry in the trenches before tragically dying in action. His work is considered as some of the very best war poetry of all time.
