Anakana Schofield
“One of the most unique, most compelling voices in fiction.”
—Toronto Star
“Schofield’s novels are existentially confounding, syntactically wild, and buckshot with wit.” —The Guardian (UK)
“Schofield’s style feels almost decadently addictive.” —The New Yorker
"Do you want to come in? Come here. Come in. Stop resisting. You are on the mat now. Just step over it. And in you come."
Enter Anakana Schofield’s bedazzling "Library of Brothel": a building perched in a city where jobs are scarce, no one can find a date, and many struggle just to be housed. Rumours swirl around the crumbling structure and rapacious developers have their eyes on it. But what we find inside is a unique economy: customers take shelter, workers love their professions, and each room offers a new kind of intellectual stimulation. How can such a precarious place survive?
Riotous, dramatic, passionate and funny, Library of Brothel is a cri de coeur for human connection and the right to meaningful work.

Reseñas de la crítica
“Library of Brothel is a call to cultivate and protect human connections. . . . Challenging, thought-provoking, and funny.” —The Vancouver Sun
“Library of Brothel . . . is equal parts confounding, goofy, astute, and funny . . . [Schofield’s] work grows broader in its interests and more playful in its approach.” —The Walrus
“The latest from Irish Canadian Anakana Schofield . . . may be even bolder and more inventive than her Giller-nominated Martin John.” —Zoomer
“[Library of Brothel is] that rare thing: a properly funny novel, about the absurdity of the human in the workplace.” —Merve Emre, New Yorker critic and author of The Personality Brokers
“An incredible read. Philosophical, dark, experimental, full of social and political commentary and so darkly comedic. No one searches for meaning in the way May/Vancouver writer Anakana Schofield does. . . . For fans of Claire-Louise Bennett & Eimear McBride perhaps, with a little Kafkaesque sensibility. Truly original.” —Elaine Feeney, How to Build a Boat
“I am just in awe of Anakana Schofield. I read her like poetry, letting the accumulation of language and ideas to create something in my brain. I loved Library of Brothel.” —Yuri Herrera
“It's a proper achievement, and it's not like anything else.” —Eimear McBride
