Matt & Levy’s (Not-So-Perfect) Plan is a fast-paced, funny, and heartfelt middle-grade novel about friendship, disability, and discovering that real life is far more unpredictable—and meaningful—than any game.
Best friends Matt, who is blind, and Levy, who is obsessed with virtual reality, are always thinking big. When Levy starts imagining ways to make VR more accessible for Matt, Matt’s quick thinking sparks a bold idea: skip school and turn imagination into a real-world adventure. What could possibly go wrong?
As it turns out—everything.
From toppled display cases to a creepy auto shop with something unsettling lurking inside, and a full-scale police search, the boys quickly find themselves in over their heads. Dodging security guards, speeding cars, and their own rising panic, their “simple plan” spirals into chaos. Along the way, their friendship is tested, along with their understanding of independence, responsibility, and what it really means to rely on someone else.
Through missteps, close calls, and unexpected honesty, Matt and Levy learn that asking for help—or offering it—doesn’t make you weak. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is own your mistakes and make things right.
Perfect for fans of Out of My Mind, The Unteachables, and Better with Butter.
