Oliver Montgomery
Maupassant is hailed as one of the greatest masters of the short story. This collection focuses upon the land he knew and loved so well - Normandy. Its people and its countryside are portrayed here in vivid color and with great warmth. Amusing, saucy, and sometimes even farcical they may be, but they are also capable of great pathos, often branching off to end tragically. It is this skilful and affecting blend of tragedy and comedy, of tears and laughter, which make Maupassant's Normandy Stories the enduring favorites they are today.

Few have done as much for the art of the short story as Guy de Maupassant. His clever plots and efficient writing are able to combine, almost effortlessly, the tragedy and comedy of human life, and his work has gone on to inspire some of the greatest writers in history. Collected here, and performed enthusiastically by actor Oliver Montgomery, are the stories that focus on the land that occupied much of Maupassant’s mind: Normandy. The Normandy Stories is a beautiful collection, rife with all the masterful trademarks listeners have come to expect from one of the fathers of the short story.
