Skilled British horror writer M. R. James helped shape modern horror with his brilliant 1904 collection, Ghost Stories of an Antiquary, which boasts this eerie venture into the uncanny valley featuring a mysterious figure that haunts a vacationing college professor after he discovers a whistle bearing a cryptic inscription while scouting a potential archaeological dig site.
Stephen Critchelow, with his smooth, velvety voice and subtle inflection, turns in a sumptuously eerie and foreboding performance that will entrance fans of intelligent psychological horror.
