Reseñas editoriales

In this late-career laugh-fest, Jonathan Winters - almost 80 years young - makes an asset of his advancing age. Winters dodders and dithers his way through a series of slightly senile character gags, portraying an 82-year-old baseball player in one bit and a bumbling Boris Karloff knock-off in the next. Adding to the sense of delirium are the misinterpreted double entendres and seemingly unwitting punch lines that bubble up from Winters’ back-and-forth banter with straight-man sidekick Gary Owens. Nevertheless, this is Winters at his most fiendishly clever: The classic comic goes to great lengths to wind up his audience, his delivery marked by preposterous premises and masterful caricature. His final recording, One Blossom Short stands as a side-splitting swan song to Winters’ bizarre brilliance.
