Florence Glick has devoted her life to taking care of her injured, widowed sister and her four children. Florence hasn’t any choice, really; Dorothy needs help. And Florence doesn’t mind - except the chance to have her own family seems to move ever further away. Florence writes out her frustrations in her diary - for her eyes only.
When a mysterious neighbor moves into the abandoned Yoder farm next door, Florence’s interest is piqued. Philip Lehman seems to always be in the right place at the right time to help them, but there is something odd going on. Something he’s not revealing. Something that makes his behavior confusing. As Florence falls for him, she yearns to know his secret.
Dorothy discovers Florence’s diary right before Christmas and asks her to leave. Florence is horrified. Who will take care of Dorothy and the children? When Philip comes to find her, his secret is finally revealed, and it’s going to change Florence’s life - and Dorothy’s, forever.
