Donald Davis's two stories about his life on the cusp of adolescence each run almost 30 minutes. Davis has a melodic, compelling voice, and, while seeming to meander through time and events, he weaves complex and complete narratives. As he talks about things like living in fear at Boy Scout camp, being at the mercy of the town bully, and the joys of being uniform manager for the high school marching band, listeners will find themselves nodding their heads, smiling, and laughing. These stories are touching without straying into sentimentality as Davis tells of discovering the importance of family and good friends. Listening to Davis will encourage families to share their own stories with each other.
