In the rugged Appalachian Mountains of Northeast Tennessee, twenty-year-old Rosealee “Rosie” Clark has been raised in a world of faith, family, and healing. On Ripshin Mountain, Rosie, her Mamma, and Granny carry on the traditions of the Granny Women, gathering herbs, roots, bark, berries, and flowers to make remedies their isolated neighbors have depended upon for generations.
Dr. Oliver Hughes comes from a very different world. Born into wealth and privilege in New York, he turns away from the future his family planned and follows what he believes is God’s call to serve Roan Mountain, Tennessee. But the newly arrived doctor soon learns that medical training alone cannot prepare him for the people and traditions of Appalachia.
When Oliver and Rosie meet during a house call, sparks fly for all the wrong reasons. He has been taught to distrust mountain herbal medicine; she has little patience for a city doctor who dismisses knowledge passed down through generations. Yet as they work side by side among the sick and injured, irritation gives way to respect—and respect slowly deepens into something neither expected.
Oliver begins to recognize Rosie’s skill, courage, and compassion, while Rosie discovers the devoted physician beneath his polished manners and privileged upbringing. Bound together by faith and a shared calling to serve others, they must navigate the differences between their worlds, Oliver’s wealthy family, and a growing love neither can deny.
Then violence strikes, leaving Oliver gravely wounded and Rosie facing the greatest test of her knowledge and faith. With his life hanging in the balance, Rosie, Granny, and Mamma must draw upon every lesson, every remedy, and every prayer they possess.
Set in 1925-1926, Rosie of Ripshin Mountain is Book Two in Sheri Bruce Wiggins’s Women of Appalachia series—a Christian historical romance rich with mountain heritage, healing traditions, danger, sacrifice, faith, and a love as enduring as the Appalachian hills.
