The Cost of Kindness by Jerome K Jerome
The overbearing and boorish Reverend Augustus Cracklethorpe M.A, is leaving the parish. Although overjoyed, Mrs Pennycoop decides that she must thank him for his work before he goes. But at what cost these kind words? 'Good manners cost nothing' is a mantra instilled in us from an early age, and Jerome takes it gently by the throat and wrings out a finely observed comedy of manners. No mannerism escapes his gaze as he dissects Edwardian England for our delight and delectation.
The Fawn Gloves by Jerome K
Jerome One spring, a man and a woman tenderly get to know each other as they meet in their local park. What they say to each other is charming and touching - it is what is left unsaid that is so important. A touching bittersweet romantic comedy.
The Sinking Ship by Robert Louis Stevenson
The ship might be going down, but by goodness there are standards you know! This story is one of RL Stevenson's Fables and his contention here is that life is as dangerous as a sinking ship. If brevity is the soul of wit, here is your proof!
