At twenty-four, I left Canada with two suitcases, an engineering degree, and a quiet restlessness I couldn’t yet explain. What began as a master’s program in Barcelona became two years across Europe—France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Morocco, Greece, Switzerland—each place reshaping me in ways no classroom could.

In Naples, I learned passion can be overwhelming and beautiful. On rooftops near Mount Vesuvius, I faced the loneliness of becoming someone new. In Barcelona, I searched for “home” and found it within myself. In Toulouse, I learned what it means to feel truly foreign—and how resilience grows from discomfort.

Through difficult roommates, mentors, fleeting romances, and moments of doubt, I slowly shed the expectations that had shaped me.
