The Academy of Secrets isn’t just a boarding school; it’s a battleground where some children go to confront their most gripping fears and betrayals. For Jack, he must come to terms with why he tried to kill his stepmother, and more importantly, why he’d do it again if given half a chance.
Based on a True Story, Jack does a pretty good job of blending in with his fellow classmates, but behind his eyes is a torrent of frustration which comes from all the adults who have failed him—after all, he’s only ten.
But Jack also knows he’s only one misstep away from being expelled, having resorted to stealing clothes, food, and washing dishes just to survive. Determined to make it on his own, Jack soon discovers another boy at the Academy who has an even darker fate awaiting him, and they band together and devise a daring plan to escape. But in a world where trust is fragile and the cost of innocence is high, their bid for freedom falls apart at the last second when Jack is accused of a crime he didn’t commit — or did he?
