The colonel fled America carrying documents that could incriminate its members, and the organisation’s agents—sailing aboard merchant vessels—have hunted his bloodline across the ocean to recover the evidence. Holmes urges John to follow the instructions for survival, yet fate cruelly intervenes.
This sombre story departs from Holmes’ usual triumphs. Despite the detective’s brilliant deductive work and desperate efforts to track the killers, the cycle of revenge cannot be stopped.
