Even for Christians, questions arise about appropriate roles of women as described in the Bible - for example, "Wives be subordinate to your husbands" (Col 3:18) and "women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak" (1 Cor 14:34). Commands such as "slaves, be obedient to your human masters" (Eph 6:5) or "call no one on earth your father" (Matt 23:9) can be challenging.
