With the raw and savagely beautiful Achill Island as a fitting backdrop, a tense and gut-wrenching plotline, and a cast of expertly drawn characters, Murphy delivers up a gritty and emotional reading experience. Her unique style and deft touch blends moments that sent chills down my spine followed with wonderful character depictions that are thoroughly authentic, often witty, and highly entertaining. DS Lucy Golden, with her flawed relationships and often spiky demeanour, is portrayed with empathy and heart, and I love the way Murphy is developing her over the series (Zoe Miller)
