Known by many as Saint Timothy, he was born in Lystra (modern-day Turkey) to a Greek father and Jewish mother around AD 17 to AD 28.

Timothy is thought to have been around 18 to 21 years of age when he joined the Apostle Paul on his second missionary journey.

He became a trusted missionary and close friend of the Apostle Paul. Paul viewed Timothy as a spiritual son, eventually appointing him to lead the church in Ephesus.

Paul wrote two pastoral letters to Timothy, offering leadership guidance and personal encouragement.

The First Letter to Timothy focuses on church order. Paul provides qualifications for elders and deacons. He also instructs Timothy on how to combat false doctrine.

The Second Epistle to Timothy is widely recognized as the very last letter Paul wrote before his martyrdom in Rome. It functions as a personal farewell. He charges Timothy to endure suffering and preach the word faithfully.

The famous theological doctrine of Biblical inspiration comes directly from these letters. In 2 Timothy 3: 16, Paul writes the definitive statement on the nature of Scripture: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
