In Banktoun, being seen can get you killed.
Marie likes her life small and predictable: pulling pints, swapping banter with regulars, going home alone. Until Sergeant Davie Gray. He’s steady and decent – the sort of man you let yourself believe in. For the first time in a long time, Marie thinks she might actually be safe.
Then the town turns. An escaped psychiatric patient is reported nearby. A woman’s body turns up on the outskirts. Davie is dragged into a case that’s swallowing the whole station and their new relationship starts cracking under the pressure. Because Marie isn’t just being paranoid. Someone really is watching her.
And Marie knows exactly who it is. She knows why they’re here. She’s been carrying a secret that doesn’t stay secret for long in a place like Banktoun, especially not with the fairground rolling in and bringing trouble in its wake. With everything set to erupt, Davie needs to see the pattern before the town decides Marie is easier to silence than to save.
