One of Arthur Cecil Gask's better known early works featuring detective Gilbert Larose. Originally published in print in 1929. The house is indeed lonely, far from any roads on a remote part of South Australia's coast. But as it happens Gilbert Larose, "the best known of all the detectives of the great Commonwealth of Australia", convalescing from typhoid fever is visiting the area. He feels the quiet and law-abiding lifestyle of South Australia will help his convalescence. He expects to be bored and wonders how he will fill in his time. Well, boredom turns out not to be a problem at all. He is immediately deeply involved in a complex investigation! This audiobook includes a short biography of the author.
