For five centuries, the Merendón sanctuary has remained a myth—a hidden cradle where the Black Guard, vampires of obsidian skin and ancient memory, guard the Record of Life under the guidance of their king, the Scribe K'inich. But the age of shadows is over. Aethelgard, a global corporate leviathan, has cracked the sanctuary's tectonic shield, seeking to harvest the "Marrow" of the ancients to power a new era of human immortality.

When Carlos, a high-ranking Lieutenant of the Black Guard, is captured and subjected to clinical deconstruction, he discovers he is not the only monster in the lab. Alongside him is Lilith-Saul, a daughter of the Zion Covenant—a rival lineage of nomadic vampires cursed with a white-hot, kinetic famine known as the Salt.

As Aethelgard prepares to launch the Golgotha Protocol to liquidate the species and patent their souls, the impossible happens: the Stone and the Salt find a common frequency. Carlos and Lilith must forge a forbidden "Hybrid-Bridge" to escape the corporate "Glass Ceiling" and return to the Merendón.

But a darker storm is gathering. The Herald of Zion is moving his scorched diaspora toward the valley, and Aethelgard's new CEO has unleashed the Shadow-Guard—soldiers of light and silicon designed to erase the past forever.
