Acerca de este título
Every new American president has a plan to bring about peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and every one fails. Every "peace process" has failed in its primary objective: to establish a stable and lasting accord between the two parties, such that they can live together side-by-side in friendship rather than enmity. But why? And what can be done instead?
The Palestinian Delusion is unique in situating the Israeli/Palestinian conflict within the context of the global jihad that has found renewed impetus in the latter portion of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. Briskly recounting the tumultuous history of the "peace process", Robert Spencer demonstrates that the determination of diplomats, policymakers, and negotiators to ignore this aspect of the conflict has led the Israelis, the Palestinians, and the world down numerous blind alleys. This has often only exacerbated, rather than healed, this conflict.
The Palestinian Delusion offers a general overview of the Zionist settlement of Palestine, the establishment of the State of Israel, and the Arab Muslim reaction to these events. It explores the dramatic and little-known history of the various peace efforts-showing how and why they invariably broke down or failed to be implemented fully.
©2019 Robert Spencer (P)2019 HighBridge, a division of Recorded BooksThe author refers to discredited representatives of the Palestinians - to their corruption, and amassed personal fortunes as if this were unique to them.
No reference is given to the equally corrupt Netanyahu and extremist rabidly racist Jewish politicians.
In general it's rather tedious and unenlightening.
He seems to suggest the poor conditions in Gaza are uniquely due to the nature of the people living there and their chosen leaders. While prosperity in Israel reflects the nature of its people rather than the trillions of dollars poured into Israel from the US.
This is a very shallow, one sided view. I recommend the BBC podcast The Mandate for a more enlightening listen.
There are multiple factors which have contributed to making this tiny area hell on earth. I hoped to hear a cogent presentation including historic, contemporary, regional, international, political and cultural factors.
Dispelling myths on all sides might help to bring people closer together - the author seems to believe that the myths are only to be found in the Qur'an while the Torah is a source of facts.
Finally, he sees absolutely no possibility for peace. He doesn't seem to regard the region as an area where people with different religions could ever live together.
He identifies the Palestinian people with the most extremist anti-Semitic terrorists while ignoring the existence of equally extremist anti-anyone- who- isn't -Jewish terrorists in Israeli politics. He seems to suggest the one solution is for Israel to double down on its military might.
It's tragic that voices like his have been dominant for decades and have led to the present catastrophe.
