Named Best Mountain Man Series by True West Magazine. Author Lane R. Warenski presents the 17th book in his best-selling Grizzly Killer Series: the Sacred Calf.
The winter of 1837-38 in the Rocky Mountain wilderness was the worst in memory. Deep snow and brutal cold lasted well into the spring. Zach and his partners were desperate to find food; their horse herd decimated from starvation. Star had dreamed of the birth of a white buffalo, a sign of hope and prosperity.
Will Taggart, a sea captain, had left the sea to take his family overland to California. The long winter had kept the buffalo from returning to their summer range. The Cheyenne saw the wagons crossing their ancestral hunting ground as the reason the buffalo had not returned. They vowed to kill the trespassers to balance the scales.
A chance meeting brought Will and Grizzly Killer together to face an overwhelming number of Cheyenne Dog Soldiers. Would the birth of a Sacred Calf save the weary travelers and bring peace to a troubled land?
