'A real scandal is not the same as a simple crime. A scandal means a sin that gives scandal – something that leads others into sin by seeming right.'

The fifth and final collection of short stories featuring G.K. Chesterton's astute priest-turned-detective, Father Brown.

Published in 1935, Father Brown returns once again to solve some seemingly inexplicable mysteries, each tale even more ruinous than the last. Although still modest and good humoured, Brown is forced to turn his attention to expose the scandals that lie beneath popular thought or well-to-do groups in society, prioritising moral truth above all else. Perhaps the darkest collection of tales in the series, The Scandal of Father Brown sees the titular character reckon with religious politics, revenge, superstition and more, unveiling the wickedness that can lurk within the human condition. Even more philosophical and morally challenging in nature, this series of stories reaffirms Father Brown as an excellent detective – and an unexpected expert in the soul's hidden conflicts. This audiobook edition is brilliantly brought to life by Nicholas Boulton.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874 – 1936) was an English novelist, philosopher, journalist and critic. He is famed for creating the fictional priest-detective Father Brown. His writing was also renowned for his sense of humour: known as 'the prince of paradox', Chesterton often turned common sayings upside down. Admired by several of his literary contemporaries, Chesterton's work is still widely read today.
