Set in the obsessive world of UK carp fishing, The Syndicate is a darkly humorous story about the anglers, waters and strange culture that surrounds the pursuit of giant carp.
The first book of the nine novels comprising The Syndicate Series Volume 1 & 2 and the original carp fishing novel that broke the mould. First written in 1994 and serialised in Carpworld magazine before being published in 1999, The Syndicate was a revelation in terms of angling literature with its comic, cynical insight into the high-pressure UK carp scene. It’s the story of ten men who lease their own private water and who, at the outset, are actually friends. Sadly, it’s also the story of ten men becoming obsessed with the desire to catch more twenty-pound carp than the others. It’s about ten men slipping down the black slope of human nature while trying to catch those carp. It’s about friends dividing into warring factions, about fraud, cheating, bait burglary and even adultery. It's also one of the funniest books out there. Utterly unique in every aspect, The Syndicate Series has become renowned amongst the world's angling community as a 'must read' and The Syndicate is where it all begins.
