Jerome K. Jerome
'It is in our faults and failings, not in our virtues, that we touch one another and find sympathy. We differ widely enough in our nobler qualities. It is in our follies that we are at one.'
Jerome K. Jerome's second ever published work, Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow is a rollicking collection of hilarious essays that established the writer as one of the most talented humorists of his day.
First serialised in 1886, Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow takes the reader through a series of eccentric takes on love, memory, shyness, babies, food, the weather, the world at large and so much more. Brimming with personal anecdotes and comically perceptive commentary, Jerome's musings invite the reader to laugh at the absurdities of society and human nature. Written with the same witty flair and whimsy found in Jerome's renowned Three Men in a Boat, this compendium of essays is largely considered one of his finest works. Now given a new lease of life in this unabridged recording, Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow is essential reading for those who enjoy the entertaining writings of Jerome – which resonate still today.
Jerome K. Jerome (1859 – 1927) was an English author and actor. Renowned for his comic works, he is best known for the hilarious travelogue, Three Men in a Boat. A prolific writer and admirer of the theatre, he penned several novels, essays and plays throughout his life.
