For more than a hundred years, the Watch Tower Society has built its prophetic framework on a single, load-bearing claim: that Matthew 24 carries a dual fulfillment — a minor rehearsal in 70 CE, and a major sequel unfolding in our own time. From that keystone flows everything: 1914, the invisible presence, the 1919 appointment, the faithful slave, the overlapping generations. Pull the keystone, and the structure falls.

In Untangling Matthew 24, Eric Michael Wilson examines Jesus' great prophecy verse by verse — through the Greek of parousia, through the historical record of 66–70 CE, through the Hebrew prophets Jesus drew upon, and through the plain statement that no one knows the day or the hour. At every point, the Watch Tower reading is placed alongside the text it claims to interpret. At every point, the text does not cooperate.

Written by a former Jehovah's Witness who served as an elder for forty years, this book is not an attack on sincere believers. It is an exercise in exegesis — drawing meaning out of the text rather than reading conclusions into it. The method is the Berean one: careful, patient, willing to follow the evidence wherever it leads.

What the evidence reveals is not a void, but a recovery. Matthew 24, read in its first-century setting, gives back a prophecy unburdened by a century of institutional weight — and a Lord who answers the disciples' question with exactly what they needed to hear.

The truth, once found, is worth the cost of finding it.
