The book attempts to weave a dark, high-stakes thriller, but it ultimately collapses under the weight of its own unbelievable plot contrivances.The story follows a female protagonist who is established as a literal football superstar, backed by a famous baseball superstar father. Yet, when she is subjected to horrific trauma—including the murder of her mother and boyfriend, and a brutal assault by an obsessed hockey coach—the narrative forces her into total silence.This is a textbook definition of an "Idiot Plot." The story only moves forward because the characters are forced to completely ignore the most obvious, logical resource available to them: the police.
By stripping a powerful, high-profile athlete of all agency and logic just to sustain the drama, the author completely shattered my suspension of disbelief. Instead of feeling organic tension, I could constantly see the writer's hand forcing the characters to make baffling choices just to keep the plot from ending. While the stakes are undeniably high, the execution lacks the psychological realism needed to handle such heavy themes. If you prefer thrillers driven by smart characters and logical consistency, you might want to skip this one.
