The universe itself has gone insane. Or has it done the opposite?

Maurus, a genius who hasn’t seen the sun in years, can’t decide. He’s been locked in an ultra-secret military bunker, reverse-engineering UFOs. His favorite—a black shadow he calls Ravana—seems to have thoughts of its own. Violent ones. Or are they his thoughts? Another question he struggles to answer.

Things escalate when these brutal fantasies begin to come true, by “coincidence,” almost exactly as he (or Ravana?) imagines them. Coworkers suffer horrific deaths. Innocents in the outside world are hunted by an assassin that Maurus is convinced he dreamed into existence.

As the line between “himself” and “reality” blurs, Maurus decides to escape Ravana before he can imagine anyone else to death—like the cancer-curing biologist he works for and happens to be in love with. Just one problem: if Ravana is a part of him, how is he supposed to do that? How can one escape from oneself at all, let alone when oneself is merging with the universe?

With the help of a captive alien, Maurus races to draw a metaphysical line between himself, Ravana, and the dark side of human nature. But if the aliens are the ones who built Ravana in the first place…can they really be trusted?
