Throw a pebble into a stagnant pond, and you’ll generate concentric rings of ripples cascading outward. These little ripples disturb the surface of the water in every direction and reach every extremity of the pond. This phenomenon has been called the “ripple effect,” and it clearly illustrates how one individual in a sea of people can cause a disturbance and shake up the otherwise calm complacency of his or her environment.
