Nina can never forgive Maggie for what she did. And she can never let her leave.
They say every house has its secrets, and the house that Maggie and Nina have shared for so long is no different. Except that these secrets are not buried in the past.
Every other night, Maggie and Nina have dinner together. When they are finished, Nina helps Maggie back to her room in the attic, and into the heavy chain that keeps her there. Because Maggie has done things to Nina that can’t ever be forgiven, and now she is paying the price.
But there are many things about the past that Nina doesn’t know, and Maggie is going to keep it that way—even if it kills her.
Because in this house, the truth is more dangerous than lies.

"[Marrs'] most sinister novel to date."—Daily Express
"An excellent psychological thriller. A one-sitting read about a daughter who keeps her mother locked in the attic. Twisty, moving, and chilling."—Sarah Pinborough, bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes
"A tense, thrilling read—I found it impossible to put down. It’s dark and twisted, and I loved it."—Alex Michaelides, bestselling author of The Silent Patient
Honestly, this was entertaining. Not amazing, but definitely not awful either.
It felt a little slow at times, and I wasn't really a fan of where things went towards the end. Maggie doing everything she could to "protect" her daughter, only for her to then wrongfully blame her own mother... I don't know. It just felt a little boring to me.
I actually liked it way more when Nina was being completely unhinged and kept her mother in the attic simply because she didn't want to be alone. 😭 That was the kind of crazy I was here for.
Overall, it was an entertaining read, but the ending definitely took some of the fun out of it for me.
