Acerca de este título

Parineeta is a love story of Shekhar and Lalita, set in early 20th century Bengal. Lalita is in her late teens, an orphan who lives with the family of her uncle Gurucharan. Gurucharan, though a principled man, is forced to take a loan from his neighbour Navin babu due to circumstances. The two neighbouring families share a very cordial relationship despite Navin’s money-minded ways. Shekhar, Navin’s younger son has a friendly relationship with Lalita. As time passes, Shekhar and Lalita try to understand the true nature of their feelings. Tensions erupt between Shekhar’s father and Lalita’s uncle on repayment of the old loan. The situation is further aggravated with the arrival of Gerinder babu, a flamboyant eligible bachelor who is attracted to Lalita.

Misunderstandings build themselves between Lalita and Shekhar. Much later, when Lalita visits her old place “lal kothi” one last time for the sale of Gurucharan’s house to Navin babu’s heirs, the story takes another unexpected turn. About the author: Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, (15 September 1876 - 16 January 1938), was a prominent Bengali novelist and short story writer. Most of his works deal with the lifestyle, tragedy, struggle of the village people and the contemporary social practices that prevailed in Bengal. He remains the most popular, most translated and most adapted, Indian author of all time.

    शेखर के पिता नवीनचंद्र बाबू जहाँ शेखर को हायर स्टडीज़ को लेकर नसीहत देते हैं वहीं शेखर की माँ भुवनेश्वरी देवी शेखर को अपने स्वास्थ्य का ख़याल रखने की हिदायत देती हैं। इन सबके बाद शेखर को लंच पे ललिता की याद आती है जब माँ भुवनेश्वरी ललिता के हाथों बनी खीर चखने को कहती हैं। शेखर भागकर टेरेस पे जाता है जहाँ ललिता एक कोने में अपने माँ बाबा के असमय देहांत को याद करके रोए जा रही है। शेखर प्यार से उसे सान्तवना देते हुए विक्टोरिया के गोलगप्पे की ट्रीट देने का वादा करता है। ललिता अपनी ममेरी बहन अन्नाकाली और अपनी सहेली चारूलता को साथ साथ चलने के लिए तैय्यार कर लेती है।

    आख़िरकार शेखर तैय्यार होकर अपनी मोटरकार में सबको विक्टोरिया ले जाता है जहाँ सारे रास्ते नोंकझोंक चलती रहती है। चारूलता और अन्नाकाली ख़ूब मज़े लेकर शेखर से मज़ाक़ करते हैं। गोलगप्पे खाने के दौरान शेखर को तीखी मिर्ची की वजह से हिचकियाँ आने लगती हैं तो ललिता को रोना आ जाता है क्यूँकि वो शेखर दा को परेशान नहीं देख सकती है। ख़ैर, लाल कोठी लौटते ही ललिता के मामा गुरुचरण बाबू और मामी शुभो देवी से शेखर का पता चलता है कि एक लाख रुपए क़र्ज़े की रक़म के ऐवज में लाल कोठी महाजन के पास गिरवी रखी है। शेख़र उन्हें आश्वस्त करता है कि वो अपने बाबा नवीनचंद्र बाबू से कहकर उनकी मदद करने का भरसक प्रयास करेगा।

    नवीनचंद्र बाबू को शेखर के ज़रिए पता चलता है कि गुरुचरण बाबू को रुपयों की सख़्त ज़रूरत है तो लाल कोठी हथियाने की उनकी हसरत को पंख लग जाते हैं। नवीनचंद्र बाबू एक लाख रुपए देते हुए अपना अहसान जताकर लाल कोठी के दस्तावेज़ बड़ी ही चालाकी से पाने क़ब्ज़े में कर लेते हैं। सीधे सादे गुरुचरण बाबू बड़े ही प्रसन्न होते हैं और शेखर को धन्यवाद देते हैं और नवीनचंद्र बाबू के प्रति एहसानमंद होते हैं। शेखर के प्रति ललिता भी आजीवन ऋणी महसूस करती है।
