In The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes Dr Watson records eleven stories revealing the astonishing abilities of the famous consulting detective similar only in exhibiting those unusual and outre features so dear to Holmes, his chronicler and their myriad readers. They intend to travel to Abousir at the southern frontier of Egypt, after which the Dervish country starts. They are attacked and abducted by a marauding band of Dervish warriors. The novel contains a strong defence of British Imperialism and in particular the Imperial project in North Africa. It also reveals the very great suspicion of Islam felt by many Europeans at the time.

Arthur Cadogan West, a young government clerk, is found dead by the railway tracks near Aldgate. 16. The Secret Door: While studying the Chronicles of the Convent Holmes finds out about secret rooms, hidden within the walls of the Abbey. And in fact, Watson and Holmes find a secret corridor.

23. Hellfire and Judgment: Holmes and Watson are at the perpetrator's will, while the accomplice is setting the Abbey alight. They are in a desperate and futile situation. But Holmes has an ace up his sleeve.

21. The Bearer of God: Holmes, Watson and Lestrade reach a closed off room via the secret corridor. In it somebody is kept against their will. Their identity and reason for imprisonment lead to disturbing findings.

22. The Covenant of Evil: Holmes and Watson are close to solving the case. As they try to confront the alleged perpetrator with their evidence, but things take a turn.

Shortly before the opening of a new ancient Egyptian exhibition at the British Museum, the main attraction disappears: The Pharaoh's Mummy was stolen from its Sarcophagus. The Curator desperately turns to Holmes and Watson and they happily take the case.
